SPRING BREAK ART CAMP
A WONDERFULLY FUN week of art activities. Sign up for only one day and/or days that you want. Bring your lunch and enjoy a day of challenging, unusual and exciti ng art projects, both inside and outside as weather permits. There will be no art camp on Good Friday. We have extended hours for those who need it, at no additional cost. GRADES: 1st – 8th
Experiment with several types of printmaking techniques. Each student will first design, and learn to carve and print their own printing plate. Discover how relief prints can then be modified to create a wide variety of unique images. A great lesson in taking one idea and expanding it, changing it into something surprisingly different!
Grades: 4th - 6th November 29 – December 13, 2016
Create a whimsical animal of your choice by building a basic form from recycled materials and then adding a “shell” of paper mache. Clean and easy techniques will be taught so that this activity can also be done at home …without a mess! Perfectly scheduled in time for the Christmas holiday.

DRAGON MASKS – Celebrating Chinese New Year
This sculpture class will focus on the art of building with paper. Engineering skills are developed as participants design structural strength into a thin sheet of paper. A large New Year’s “Dragon Mask” will be created.
GRADES: 4th – 6th January 17 - 31, 2017 (3 weeks)
SPORTS IN ART – Action Drawing
Young artists have the opportunity to capture greater motion in their artwork. Participants will explore compositional and textural elements that add movement to their illustrations. Superhero forms will be explored along with animals and people.
GRADES: 1st – 3rd January 19-February 2, 2017 (3 weeks)
PUPPETS WITH HEART – A Fun February event
Puppetry combines the visual arts with theatrical arts. This special opportunity will allow our younger artists to put on a play with puppets they create. This is a great class in which a participant might wish to ask their friends to join in.
GRADES: 1st – 3rd February 7 - 21, 2017 (3 weeks)
AFRICAN ART – Celebrating Other Cultures
Learn about cultures around the world! This class will highlight the art and culture of the African nation of the Ashanti people. By creating and using their own stamps students will create exciting artwork that expresses specific meanings and ideas.
GRADES: 4th – 6th February 9 - 23, 2017 (3 weeks)
PAPER MACHE – Sculpture With Motion
Creating in the third dimension is important for artists of all ages. We will use paper mache, over an “armature” to create an animal or human form. Special emphasis will be placed on creating a unique personality that appears to be moving.
GRADES: 4th – 6th March 21 - April 4, 2017 (3 weeks)
WATERCOLOR – Animals in Nature
Our younger students always enjoy depicting animals. With a focus on watercolor, participants will learn new ways in which their ideas can be developed into exciting artwork. Emphasis will be placed on how an animal fits into their environment.
GRADES: 1st – 3rd March 23 - April 6, 2017 (3 weeks)
SUESSICAL ANIMALS – Imagine…
Students will combine different media as an “assemblage” to build a unique and fanciful animal form. The sculpture may be hairy, feathery, scaly, or leathery. Artwork will combine different materials; only limited by the child’s imagination.
GRADES: 1st – 3rd April 18 – May 2, 2017 (3 weeks)
LARGE FORMAT PAINTING – For Big Ideas!
Painting is oft en limited by the space that is available at home or at school. Using our open classroom space we can paint on a surface that is larger than usual. Ideas explode as students learn how to expand on a beginning theme.
GRADES: 4th – 6th April 20 - May 4, 2017 (3 weeks)
